etheroscope by ariscene etheroscope by ariscene
"In the Underworld your skin feels numb, there is no sense of heat or pressure...Remember that sound is muffled as if you were immersed in water, and normal vision isn't of much help either....
With the etheroscope you can see the nether things,
and we have also incorporated a Morse-Radio unit to communicate with the expedition.
Wear it at all times.
But be warned: do not -for any reason- remove the breather unit. Inhaling Ether will stupefy you forever, and trap your mind in the realm of half-light...."

This is the Etheroscopion (Etheroscope), made out of standard goggles and junk, and painted with acrylics. I only need to attack a leather strap to it, so it can be normally worn.

Unpainted version: unpainted goggles

Another view: goggles up
Yet another: goggles down

Absolutely gorgeous! I actually have a junky plastic one-piece welding mask very similar to the one I can see you see for this, and am now inspired to put more work into it and make it into something as wonderfully demented as this.

These has really got some personality. Very distinct features.
I love when the entire characteristic of a character can be boiled down to a single feature, and these would be perfect as one such.

I really enjoy these! Sometimes I get really tired of all the steampunk goggles because they are all the same. Cool-looking and intricate, with neat leather, sometimes, but the same! Yours actually looks useful. Love the antenna.

That's one of the best comments I've ever had, thanks!
I was tired of seeing cogs and gears used as decoration :D

One of the best... I'm so honored! I think one of the coolest things about DA is being able to talk to great artists. Thanks for replying. :)

And yeah, all the gears are getting kind of old.

You have some very nice steampunk work here! I like the fact that you have a story for most of them, and how detailed they are, too.
Great job :)

Thank you for the kind words!
Stories help develop the appearance of the sculpture :)

they help a lot with drawing/painting too, for sure!
After seeing your old works on Warhammer models, I was wondering if you knew Rémi Bostal? Thought you might be interested in his work on Star Wars ([link]), Dungeons and Dragons ([link]) or Heroclix ([link]).
Good day to you ;)

Love the paint detailing and the way you've used a bracket to attach the extra antenna. The little extras make all the difference. I've done a few myself and am still exploring the possibilities on the goggles. It's also nice that you can actually see through them.

Thank you very much! I really believe that "god lies in the details" :D
I had to mask the glass parts with tape, so they wouldn't turn opaque.

Haha, I went a bit lazy with that, but I've made up an explanation:
You can breathe through the nose, and still use your mouth to communicate :D

Thanks, glad you like!
